Total Lunar eclipse March 3, 2007
The total Lunar eclipse of March 3, 2007 was ideally placed. The eclipse occured around midnight with the Moon high in the sky in the constelation Leo.
Numerous Team members observed the eclipse, three of them also estimated the Moon brightness during the eclipse. Jure Atanackov observed from the coastal region of Slovenia, using 11x70 binoculars. Javor Kac and Teo Mocnik observed from Maribor, using 7x50 and 10x50 binoculars, respectively. Jure Zakrajsek covered the eclipse with photographs through 15-cm refractor. About 500 people were shown the eclipsed Moon through numerous telescopes that were present at the public observation in Maribor, the second-largest city of Slovenia.
We estimated the Moon at mid-eclipse at L=2 on Danjon scale. The Moon brightness at maximum eclipse was -1m3, thus being the darkest observed eclipse by the Team since 2001.
